Alutiiq-style mask made of paper. The Sheldon Jackson Museum will host an At Saxan Art Activity on Saturday, April 7th at 10am. During the April At Saxan, children ages 6-10 will make Alutiiq style masks and look at images of Alutiiq masks in the museum gallery. The masks will be made using paper, scissors, crayons, and colored pencils. To register your child, call (907) 747-8981.

At Saxan traditionally happens every third Saturday of the month in the fall, winter and spring and is family-friendly, free of charge, and sponsored by the Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum. During these At Saxan events, children ages 6-10 make some sort of a craft or work of art and learn about Alaska Native cultures and peoples. Frequently, At Saxan participants look for specific kinds of artifacts in the gallery.

The April At Saxan is happening earlier than typical due to scheduling conflicts. Please note the date is the 7th of April and that this is the last At Saxan until September.

The Sheldon Jackson Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to noon and 1pm to 4:00pm with a lunch closure between noon and 1pm. During the winter, admission is $5 for general visitors, $4 for seniors, and free for ages 18 and under. However, admission will be waived for the At Saxan Art Activity. Please call (907) 747-8981 with any questions about the museum’s programming.
