Vintage 1951 Sears, Roebuck and Co. Wallpaper collages

In the 1950’s, the Sears, Roebuck and Co. catalogue was the means of shopping and viewing the western trends for remote Alaskan villages. Trends that were widely irrelevant yet still imposing, as western civilization encroached on traditional ways of life.

These pieces were created by collaging a 1951 Sears, Roebuck and Co. wallpaper sample catalogue in the order in which they are featured. I am endlessly fascinated by these old wallpaper samples. Beautiful, aspirational and antiquated.
