Juneau - In association with the exhibit Illustrating Alaska: Artists Making Children’s Books, on display at the Alaska State Museum through April 3, the Friends of the Alaska State Library, Archives, and Museum will offer a virtual tiny books workshop with artist Evon Zerbetz on Saturday, March 20. This workshop is designed for kids ages 7-12 but interested older kids up to 18 years old are welcome. There are two sessions of the same activity, one in the morning, 10:00-11:30 am, and one in the afternoon, 1:00-2:30 pm. Participants will make their own miniature books with hard covers. They will learn basic book-making skills and the language of bookmaking with this no-sew project and can choose from a blank book for their personal stories or one with Evon’s design inside. Well-known for her distinctive linocut artwork, Evon has been making homemade books out of found objects for longer than she has been illustrating books. She will share some of her handmade book collection during the workshop.
Evon Zerbetz is the illustrator of numerous Alaska-themed children’s books including favorites like Blueberry Shoe, Ten Rowdy Ravens, and Dream Flights on Arctic Nights. Her work is also featured in the glass mural, We Are Written in the Layers of the Earth, in the Alaska State Library.

The Alaska State Museum is open Wednesday-Saturday from noon-4 pm. Current admission rates are $9 for adults, $8 for seniors (65 and up), and free for youth (18 and younger).
