The Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum invites the public to attend their Winter Zoom Share Your Culture/ Share Your Research Series in the coming months. The Series will include four Zoom events presented by Alaska Native artists and culture bearers including Robert Hoffmann (Tlingit), Chuna McIntyre (Yup’ik), June Pardue (Alutiiq/Sugpiaq), and Richard Jackson (Tlingit). The first Zoom event of the Series will be held in honor of Native American Heritage Month.
Join the Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum on Zoom on Sat., Nov. 21st at 2pm for a presentation by artist Robert Hoffmann (Tlingit). Hoffman’s presentation, entitled, “The Relationship Between Formline Design & Carving,” will showcase Bill Holm’s illustrated cross-section of carved formline in Northwest Coast Indian Art: An Analysis of Form and Steve Brown’s proposals about the evolution of formline [as highlighted in the publication, Native Visions]. Through the use of a carved salmon trout head, Hoffman will speak to how the various elements of formline are dictated by actually having come from carved design. This 35-minute Zoom event will be free and open to all.
The Sheldon Jackson Museum is open between Tuesday and Saturday from noon until 4pm between. Museum admission is $5 for general admission, $4 for seniors, and free for ages 18 and under.
