The Sheldon Jackson Museum is pleased to announce it will host author Dr. Richard Feldman at the museum on Tuesday, May 22nd at 2pm for a talk on his recently re-released book, Home Before the Raven Caws: The Mystery of a Totem Pole. The presentation recounts Dr. Feldman's ten-year research journey that solved the mystery of the missing totem pole from the Brady Collection of Sitka National Historical Park. This collection of totem poles is one of the most famous and studied collections in the world. The fate of the pole remained a mystery to historians for 90 years. The talk takes the audience to the Indianapolis neighborhood of Golden Hill, to the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, to a remote island Indian village in Southeast Alaska, and finally to the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis for a traditional pole raising of an exact replica of the original pole. Solving this mystery and tracing the pole to its original Native Alaskan family was a true modern-day adventure. Dr. Feldman invites the audience to share in that adventure! The research has been the subject of two scholarly articles, a PBS documentary, and the book, Home Before the Raven Caws.
