JUNEAU – The exhibition, Windows into Heaven: Contemporary Icons by Juneau painter Deacon Charles Rohrbacher will open at the Alaska State Museum this Friday, February 2.  The opening reception is sponsored by the Friends of the Alaska State Library, Archives and Museum and will run from 4:30pm – 7:00pm.  Admission is free during this First Friday evening time frame.

Following the opening, the artist will give a talk about the rediscovery of icon painting in the 21st century at 7:00pm in the APK lecture hall.

For thirty-five years, Alaskan icon painter Deacon Charles Rohrbacher has been a part of an international rediscovery of the icon and rebirth of icon painting in Russia and in the West. Rohrbacher's exhibit, Windows into Heaven: Contemporary Icons, offers a place where refuge, solace, and peace can be found in sacred imagery.

Deacon Charles Rohrbacher is one of eight artists selected for the Alaska State Museum 2017-2019 Solo Artist Exhibition Series.
