The Alaska State Museum November 2025 artifact of the month is a gold U.S. Deputy Marshal badge (2003-2-1). It has a connection to Jefferson Randolph "Soapy" Smith, one of the most famous criminals in Alaska history. Smith was born in Newman, Georgia on November 2, 1860. As a con man, he swindled and robbed people in Texas, Colorado, and Alaska.
