The Alaska State Museum in Juneau and Sheldon Jackson Museum in Sitka invite tribal, museum and agency staff to attend the fourth of a new series of Open Office Hours NAGPRA meetings. The meetings provide a forum to ask questions and discuss concerns about the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act and relevant cultural belongings. The State Museums will provide information about their NAGPRA compliance and invite Alaskan museum(s), tribal and agency staff to share organizational NAGPRA updates. All meetings are virtual. Some are themed; others are open-ended. All the meetings will be held virtually.
The fourth Open Office Hours NAGPRA meeting will be held on Friday, September 19th at 3 pm AKT. During this meeting, there will be a discussion about the Alaska State Museums’ online database and a brief tutorial of how to use the online database to access information about the museums’ collections. The last portion of the meeting will include a Q&A and an opportunity for people to bring up other subjects.
The Alaska State Museums recognize that not all will be able to attend the September 19th meeting and welcome any questions or concerns about the Open Office Hours NAGPRA meetings, NAGPRA, or NAGPRA compliance at any time. For questions, concerns or comments, please contact Chief Curator Addison Field at Addison.field@alaska.gov or call (907) 465-4866.
