Juneau – The Alaska State Libraries, Archives, and Museums Division is documenting the impact of COVID-19 on life in Alaska.

As Alaska residents like you react to new policies and recommendations aimed to restrict the virus’ spread, the Division of Libraries, Archives and Museums wishes to document and preserve the materials and stories that demonstrate how you are continuing to communicate, work, commute, learn, teach, create, pray, celebrate, mourn, and give aid to others. Tell us your story or consider what objects or recordings best represent the experiences and observations that have stood out to you most.  How are you and your friends and family staying in touch during this period of social distancing and self-quarantine?  What do you regard as your biggest challenges? Was there a moment when you realized a historic event was taking place?  We are looking for a diverse set of voices, hearing about your lived experience, and learning about your new everyday lives. Historians of the future will want to know how we spent our days.

You can help by sharing documents, images, journals, audio recordings, videos, and other digital or tangible items relating to COVID-19 in Alaska.  Use the SLAM COVID-19 submission form available at https://lam.alaska.gov/our-covid19-story to tell us about your ideas.

While we can’t promise to accept any particular item for our collections, we will strive to select those having permanent historical value.  We aim to preserve the materials we accept and make them available to researchers.  Thank you for helping us document this important part of Alaska’s history.
