The Alaska State Museum will reopen to the public on Tuesday, December 29 with a new exhibit by Juneau-based artist Mitch Watley. For Watley’s solo exhibition, he transforms everyday objects into complex dioramas often depicting futuristic landscapes. Sculpted figures inhabit these scenes navigating life in these other-worldly settings. Viewers will get lost in the details of these small sculptures that take upwards of a year to make.
The Museum will be open for visitors Tuesday – Thursday, December 29-31 from 12:00-4:00 and on Saturday January 2, from 12:00 – 4:00. The Museum and the facility will be closed on Friday January 1st in observance of the New Year’s Day holiday. We strongly recommend visitors call to schedule and reserve a time for your visit, as the Museum will reopen at reduced capacity.
Beginning the week of January 4, the State Museum will be open Wednesday through Saturday from 12:00 noon to 4 p.m.
