SITKA – Alaska Native Artist-in-Residence Rico Worl (Tlingit and Athabascan) will give an artist talk entitled “Forming Lines: From Starwars to Formline.” The talk will take place on Saturday, July 24, 3-4 pm, at the Sheldon Jackson Museum and on Zoom. Worl will talk about the intersection of modernity and indigeneity and how this convergence provides grounds for cultural survival and cross-cultural connection. Worl was raised with traditional values and attended traditional ceremonies and events growing up. He also spent his free time doing nerdy stuff. Being a modern indigenous person means being involved in diverse social groups. These crossroads have influenced the pop art production and entrepreneurial mindset of social designer and artist Rico Worl.
The Sheldon Jackson Museum is open Wednesday-Sunday, 9 am-4 pm through July 31. Starting August 1, hours will change to Tuesday-Saturday, 10 am-4 pm. Admission is $9 for adults, $8 for ages 65+, and free for youth 18 and under or for Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum or Alaska State Museum members.
