Artist Talk

Friday, October 14, 1-2 pm
Sheldon Jackson Museum and on Zoom

In her talk entitled “Compasses, Clocks & Caustics,” McGlashan will discuss the role of creativity in her life and how it has helped her speak to past and future selves, digest the forces of the outside world, and find self-actualization. She will discuss the impact of growing up in rural subsistence communities, her urban adulthood, and how these seemingly disconnected realms are actually inseparable. She will examine connections between literal consumption (food/subsistence) and conceptual consumption (ideas/spirituality) and how they both shape our collective orientation to time, identity, and resources. McGlashan will reflect on perception, in the context of monochronic/linear time and polychronic/non-linear time, articulating the ways in which these different perspectives have molded her own approach to life, creativity, and connection.
