Juneau – The public is invited to join science communication students from the University of Alaska Fairbanks College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences on Monday, April 15, 2019 from noon to 1 pm in the lecture hall at the Father Andrew P. Kashevaroff (APK) Alaska State Library, Archives, and Museum, 395 Whittier Street, Juneau as they present stories of their research on fish and marine mammals in the Gulf of Alaska.
Whale Tales and Fish Sagas will feature presentations by UAF graduate students Matt Callahan and Valentina Melica on their research focusing on sablefish (black cod) and blue whales, species that have thrived during recent warming in the Gulf of Alaska. The speakers will also share the science communication approaches that they have been practicing as a component of their current coursework with Associate Professor Anne Beaudreau. Meet these investigators and learn about their adventures at sea and in the laboratory, what they’ve learned so far, and how the public can stay informed about their future findings. Admission to the event is free and refreshments will be served following the presentation. All ages are welcome.
