JUNEAU – Come by the State Library, Archives, and Museum in the Father Andrew P. Kashevaroff (APK) building on Friday, January 5, for an afternoon of activities for the whole family. Staff and volunteers of the Library, Archives, and Museum will lead activities, including:

  • Make your own salmon can label with Museum Registrar Andrew Washburn, inspired by the artwork of the historic Alaskan canneries from the collections.
  • Check out stereograms, early 3-D photographs, from the Historical Collections and make your own 3-D scenes.
  • See the newspaper from the day you were born, then “print” your own newspaper in the Library Reading Room.
  • Make Alaska action figures out of chenille stems, based on the clothing and technology in the Museum’s collections.

Registration is not required, and families may drop in any time between 1:00 and 4:00 PM. There is no museum admission fee for adults accompanying a child 18 or younger to the Family Fair. Admission to the museum for ages 18 and under is always free, and there is no charge to access to the Library and Archives. The APK is located at 395 Whittier Street, Juneau.

The Family Fair is sponsored by The Friends of the Alaska State Library, Archives, and Museum, and is partially funded by the citizens of the City and Borough of Juneau through sales tax revenues.

The Alaska State Library, Archives, and Museum support free lifelong learning activities for Alaskans. The youth activity program is designed to provide young people with opportunities to work with professional artists to learn artistic techniques and engage with art, history, and the collections of the Library, Archives, and Museum. Visit our Youth Art Activities page for more information.
