The Sheldon Jackson Museum invites the general public to two events scheduled for Saturday, February 17th. The first event is an At Saxan Art Activity in which children ages 6-10 will make caribou tufted-like boxes. The boxes will be made using glue, beads, yarn, pompoms and sequins and inspiration will be taken from Athabascan caribou tufted boxes. At Saxan happens every third Saturday of the month in the fall, winter and spring and is family-friendly and free of charge. To register your child, call (907) 747-8981. This event is sponsored by the Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum and is from 10-11am.
The second free event is a screening of the film Rights for All: Ending Jim Crow in Alaska. This documentary is about civil rights leader Elizabeth Peratrovich. The film will be screened at 2pm free of charge and light refreshments, courtesy of the Friends of Sheldon Jackson Museum will be served in the lobby before and after the film. The screening is in honor of Elizabeth Peratrovich Day happening this week.
The Sheldon Jackson Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to noon and 1pm to 4:00pm with a lunch closure between noon and 1pm. During the winter, admission is $5 for general visitors, $4 for seniors, and free for ages 18 and under. However, admission will be waived for both the At Saxan Art Activity and film screening.
