Artist-in-residence David John Angaiak (Yup’ik, Aleut) will give a talk on on a selection of artifacts from the permanent collection of the Sheldon Jackson Museum on Friday, September 1, 2-3 pm. David John Angaiak is based in Wasilla, Alaska and describes himself as “a visual artist whose work expresses his Yup’ik Eskimo and Unangan Aleut heritage.“ He often depicts nature from personal experiences centered around bird and sea life encountered along the coasts of his ancestral homeland of Bristol Bay. As a contemporary mask maker, he likes to incorporate both traditional and modern elements. Inspiration for his work comes from a deep desire to keep this art expression alive for future generations. Summer hours at the Sheldon Jackson Museum are Monday-Saturday, 9 am-4:30 pm and Sunday, 1-4:30 pm, closed holidays. Summer admission is $9 for adults and $8 for seniors. Visitors 18 and under are admitted free of charge. Assistance is available for visitors with special needs.
