The Alaska Heritage Museum is the largest private collection of its kind in Alaska. In addition to a large collection of Alaskan Native artifacts, and fine art by Alaskan artists, the Museum highlights Wells Fargo history in the Alaskan Gold Rush era, with a two-thirds-scale stagecoach. Includes hundreds of Native artifacts; ivory carvings and 80 hand-woven Native baskets; traditional clothing; a traditional sea kayak covered in seal skin; and paintings by Alaskan artists Sydney Laurence, Fred Machetanz, Eustace Ziegler and others.

Mission: a home for Jewish history, art and culture in Alaska. Provides a gathering place and historical repository for artifacts, photos, film, oral histories and other documents that tell the story of the Jews of Alaska thereby enriching the cultural wealth of the broader Alaskan community. The activities of the Alaska Jewish Museum include educating the public about the Jewish contribution to the State of Alaska; and establishing a center for dialogue to serve as a catalyst for exploring diversity and understanding among the multiplicity of cultures here. Collects and preserves original documents, photographs, visual art, books, and artifacts that tell the story of the Jewish experience in Alaska.

To collect, preserve, catalog and provide public access to Alaska's sound and moving image material, and to encourage the ongoing documentation of Alaskans and Alaska events of historical importance; to provide knowledge and assistance to other archives, private collectors, producers, institutions, and the general public; to advocate on behalf of these materials; and to educate the public, government officials and civic leaders on the importance of preserving Alaska's sound and moving image heritage.

Alaska Resources Library and Information Services (ARLIS) is a publicly-accessible library which serves nine federal and state agencies, including Alaska Department of Fish and Game. ARLIS has the largest library collection of ADF&G publications in the state and is able to help with most ADF&G publication requests. Most ARLIS items may be checked out by the Alaskan public with a valid borrower card. Others may use interlibrary loan to borrow ARLIS items through their local library. ARLIS holds more than 250,000 books; 700+ print journals; 700+ e-journals; 30+ proprietary online databases; E-book reference shelf; Legal materials; Federal and state documents from all resource agencies; Maps and atlases; Conference proceedings; Masters theses and Ph.D. dissertations; DVDs and CD-ROMS; Videos, slides, and photos; Educational science kits; Environmental education materials; Furs, skulls, and bird mounts.

Provides for the orderly management of current state records, and preserves non-current public records of permanent value for study and research.

"The Alaska State Court Law Library serves the legal information needs of Alaskans by selecting, organizing and facilitating access to legal research resources and court system information." The library includes a main office and collection in Anchorage, and information at 16 branch libraries throughout Alaska.

Collects, preserves, and provides access to Alaskana, including private papers, state agency publications, and other materials of historical value to the state.

The Anchorage Museum connects people, expands perspectives, and encourages global dialogue about the North and its distinct environment. The Anchorage Museum library collection development plan is in line with the Museum’s overall mission and focuses on the history, ethnography, science and art of Alaska and the North. The collection includes more than 13,500 books, 750 rare books, 800 Alaska maps, auction catalogs, and periodicals about Alaska and art. The collection is non-circulating, but the public is welcome to do on-site research. Also provides reference service for the public via email and phone.

The Anchorage Public Library is dedicated to collecting, preserving and sharing the history of our community. The Library values responsible stewardship of all the rich historical collections with which we have been entrusted as well as free, open, unrestricted access for all community members. Our role is to make Alaskan history meaningful and relevant to everyone. Contains Northern circulating books and media; a reference collection of Anchorage yearbooks and obituary indexes and Alaska periodicals; microfilm collections of Alaska newspaper archives, Alaska Russian Church archives, census record, John Muir papers, Sanborn Fire Insurance maps; Alaska rare books; and a genealogy reference collection.

Archives and Special Collections at the Consortium Library acquires, preserves, and makes available to students, faculty, and the public unpublished documents, photographs, and information stored in non-print media. In addition to supporting the several educational and research missions of the University, it performs a special service mission as community conservator of the papers and records of persons, families, organizations, associations, and businesses. Archives and Special Collections collects papers and records relating to the history of Alaska and the northwest Pacific area. Special Collections: Papers, photographs, moving images, audio, and other types of documentation from individuals, organizations, and businesses. These cover a wide variety of subjects: history, medicine, anthropology, public policy, social sciences, humanities, scientific, engineering, and so forth. Also, University records, Consortium Library’s Rare Books collection and copies of most master’s theses submitted to both UAA and APU.

On the rooftop of the world, the Iñupiat Heritage Center in Barrow, Alaska, tells the story of the Iñupiat people. They have thrived for thousands of years in one of the harshest climates on Earth, hunting the bowhead, or "Agviq."

The Kegoayah Kozga Library in Nome has a collection of old and rare books that were purchased in 1983 from retired Presbyterian Minister, Alice Green. Green began amassing books and articles on Alaska and neighboring regions around 1963 while serving as Presbyterian Minister for Savoonga on St. Lawrence Island. Among the books are many rare volumes including numerous first editions, government reports, early Eskimo ethnographies on St. Lawrence Island, popularly written books in Alaska life, and biographies of famous and not-so-famous Alaskans. Most of these publications are dated between the 1800s and 1975. This collection can be searched by title, author, or subject with our in-house computer system. All materials are for use in the library only. Inter-library loans from this collection are not available.

Once located in Anchorage, the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) Alaska Records has been moved to their Seattle location. Many are being made accessible online. Some have been transferred to the Alaska State Archives.

National parks are preserved for their exceptional natural and cultural resources. Research provides the foundation for informed management of park resources, and the National Park Service hosts and supports several programs that support and promote research within park boundaries and in related areas. Outside agencies, institutions, and organizations conduct research in partnership with the park service. The Alaska Regional Office maintains a website with online articles, documents and reports, as well as information on programs, permitting and conducting research in Alaska’s National Parks.

The largest library in Alaska; has one of the world's finest collections of Alaska and Polar Regions materials including books, periodicals, photography, manuscripts, films, oral histories, rare books and maps. The collections are centered on Alaska but include many items about the circumpolar North and Antarctica. Subject bibliographers, archivists, anthropologists and historians on the Alaska and Polar Regions Collections & Archives staff are available for reference and research assistance.

Sealaska Heritage Institute is a private nonprofit founded in 1980 to perpetuate and enhance Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian cultures of Southeast Alaska. Its goal is to promote cultural diversity and cross-cultural understanding through public services and events. Sealaska Heritage also conducts social, scientific and public policy research that promotes Alaska Native arts, cultures, history and education statewide.

Maintains a local history collection of approximately 5000 items covering historical and contemporary, fiction and nonfiction, titles for ages preschool to adult. Included is the CL Andrews Collection (CLA), with voluminous notes relating to the history of Alaska from the early days of exploration and fur trading through the late 1900s. A finding guide for the CLA collection is available on the Library’s website.

The Tuzzy Consortium Library, located in Utqiaġvik (Barrow), Alaska, provides public library services to the entire North Slope Borough and is the academic library for Iḷisaġvik College . The library is named in honor of Evelyn Tuzroyluk Higbee of Point Hope, who was a member of the original Board of Higher Education for the college. The Tuzzy Consortium Library is located in the same building as the Iñupiat Heritage Center. Tuzzy Library is a Federal Depository Library. Resources held by the library include: books, ebooks, DVD's, ebooks, audiobooks, streaming educational films, microforms, newspapers, periodicals, databases, and local, state and federal documents. Special collections include a growing Archive as well as a circulating Alaskan section with particular emphasis on arctic and polar regions information, the North Slope, and the Iñupiaq history, language and culture.

The Yupiit Piciryarait Cultural Center is a unique facility that celebrates the Yup’ik culture. The center serves as a regional gathering center for Southwest Alaskans to stimulate ideas, advance their knowledge, and enhance the quality of life.
