Wolf Cub by Allie High
The last day for the public to see the Sheldon Jackson Museum’s current Solo Show, Sanctuary, will be Friday, April 22, 2022. The second Solo Show Exhibition in the museum’s Alaska Native Solo Show Exhibition Series, Sanctuary, is an exhibition of masks and painted works on wood and canvas by Allie High (Tsimshian, Haida, Alutiiq).
According to High, her work is a direct reflection of her Tsimshian, Haida, and coastal Alutiiq cultural background. Her artist statement describes her goal as building “upon traditional art symbols and motifs to further define the contemporary world and share the beauty of Alaska’s diverse cultures through the mediums of glass, metal, wood and printmaking.”
The Sheldon Jackson Museum is currently open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am until 4pm and is closed holidays. People may call the museum to confirm hours. Winter admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, and free for ages 18 and under and active duty military and their families (with an ID). People with questions about the exhibition may contact the museum directly at (907) 747-8981.
