The Alaska-Canada Boundary Survey Albums consist of three photograph albums with a total of 430 photographs. The bulk of the photographs were taken during expeditions to survey the boundaries between Canada and Alaska. Subjects include members of the expeditions and their activities as well as towns, villages and camps visited during the expeditions. Images of the indigenous people of Alaska and northwestern Canada are included in the albums as well as boundary markers, survey activities and modes of transportation used by survey members.

The Alaska Boundary Survey Journal contains 15 journals written by Chief of Party Ora Miner Leland and several members of his staff while employed on the Alaskan Boundary Survey. The journals pertaining to the survey date from 1905-1910. Two 1901 journals written by Leland pre-date the survey and describe his earlier employment and give some details of his family. The journals were written by the following members: Boothroyd, S.L., Ass't Surveyor (1906 & 1908); Coon, P.D., Ass't Surveyor (1905); Garrett, S.S., Ass't Surveyor (1907); Gavett, George Irving, Ass't Surveyor (1908); Hill, Jesse, Ass't Surveyor (1910); Leland, Ora Miner, Chief of Party (1901, 1907-1910); and Smith, Wirt F., Office staff and Ass't Surveyor (1905-1907).

This collection includes photographs that document the potential route of the Alaska Central Railway, including various pictures of tunnels, a suspension bridge above Placer River Canyon, numerous views of Crow Creek and Crow Creek Summit, Sushetna River [Susitna River] and Sushetna Station [Susitna Station] including a Russian church at Sushetna Station, Chulitna Canyon, Broad Pass, and glaciers.

The Edward L. Creamer Papers consist of one memoir titled "A Dogface in Alaska: Surveying and Surviving," with digital print copies of 190 photographs. The memoir details Creamer's experiences as topographic computer with the U. S. Army's 551st Engineer Company, 660th Battalion, 30th Engineer Group in the summer of 1954, when the company surveyed areas of southwestern Alaska near Platinum, Togiak, and Bethel.

The collection consists of the diaries of surveyor Earl (Lewis Earl) Grammer for the years 1922 to 1948. They contain his personal thoughts and describe his activities during this time. Topics include oil explorations on the Alaska Peninsula at Bear Creek, Rex Creek, Wide Bay, and the "Cold Bay" region (between Wide Bay and present-day Puale Bay) in the 1920s; placer mining in the Dome Creek area near Fox, Alaska, in 1925; work for the Healy Coal Company in Healy, Alaska, in the 1930s; work for "AGF" in 1928-1930; and road surveys for the Alaska Road Commission in 1933-1935 (Eklutna Road Project, Anchorage-Matanuska Road Survey, Springer Road Survey, Eagle River Hill Survey, and Knik River Bridge).

The Walter Hodge Papers consist of papers and photographs from Hodge's various work experiences, such as his work on the Alaska Road Commission, Panama Canal Department and as executive officer in charge of construction of 300 miles of the Alaska Highway. This collection also includes images of Hodge's time as regimental commander in charge of airfield construction in the Aleutian Islands.

The Reginald J. Hood Photographs includes a leather-covered album of 23 photographs taken in 1905 while Hood was part of a U.S. Geological Survey topographic mapping party in the White Mountains and Crazy Mountains northwest of Central, Alaska.

The surveying and engineering services Hubbell & Waller performed for both corporate and individual clients are reflected in the correspondence, plats, survey field notes, financial statements, homestead and tideland applications, land and mineral patents, photographs, and architectural drawings.

Kirtley Fletcher Mather, a professor emeritus of geology, Harvard University, had spent the summer of 1923 in Alaska, part of a United States Geology Survey party, surveying and mapping the Alaska Peninsula, between Kamishak Bay and the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes. This collection has images of landscapes and scenery from the Aleutian Range, Alaska Peninsula, Katmai National Park, including the Katmai National Monument, and the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes. In addition, there are photographs of street scenes and dwellings in Fairbanks and Kanatak, Alaska, birds-eye-views of Battle Lake on the Alaska Peninsula and Columbia and Serpent Tongue glaciers.

Frank H. May was a railroad surveyor in Alaska and Oregon. The collection contains contain 65 images, ca. 1904 - ca. 1910, taken in the Copper River region, the Cordova region, the Juneau/Douglas region and on the Seward Peninsula.

The bulk of the material in the collection reflects McPherson's professional activities as a survey engineer and provides information about many of his surveying projects both in Alaska and in Washington. Twelve photograph albums in the collection contain images taken during the course of several trips McPherson made in Alaska, including a 1906 journey to survey for a land route from Fairbanks to Council. Photographs in the albums were taken in southeastern Alaska, southcentral Alaska and the Copper River region, the Alaska Peninsula, and interior Alaska.

The files contain maps, blueprints, articles, status reports, correspondence, and so on, pertaining to engineering projects Col. Mears was involved with, such as the Alaska Railroad.

The C. L. Sainsbury Papers contain a sampling of Sainsbury's published and unpublished writings on the topics of Alaskan geology, mineral resources, and geological survey. Also found in the collection are publications by other authors, a small amount of correspondence, and documentation of assessment work on various Alaskan mining claims.

This collection contains forty photographs, photocopies of the photographs, and 1 report relating to the 1932 Alaskan Aerial Survey Expedition. The report, "The Land of the Williwaw," was written by Lieutenant R.H. Harrell, U.S.N., Officer-in-Charge.

The Bradford and Barbara Washburn Papers consist of diaries, maps, slides, and photographs documenting the Washburns' many mountaineering and mapping expeditions. They also include publications by and about the Washburns and their work, the text of speeches by Bradford Washburn, and various biographical material. The collection is also includes 8x10 aerial photographic negatives of mountain terrain, taken primarily in Alaska in the years 1937-1976.
