About the Alaska State Library

Your privacy is assured when you use our Ask a Librarian reference service, or any other service. The Alaska State Library staff will keep the identities of library users and the nature of their inquiries confidential. (See the Alaska State Statutes Sec. 40.25.140 Confidentiality of library records, for more information.)

Our online library service forms ask for contact and demographic information. Contact information is used to respond to reference questions or other comments you send to our site and to deliver the services requested. After a reference question is answered, we delete any identifying information.

If another agency, library or source can better answer your question, we will either refer your question to them or give you the contact information. Before referring a question on we will get your permission to do this.

Our online surveys are anonymous and are used to improve our site and better serve our patrons. Demographic information is collected, but we do not ask for any personally identifying information.
