The Alaska State Library has purchased access to Short Takes for Trustees for Alaskan library board members and library directors through December 2022. 

Short Takes for Trustees is a series of 10 short videos (8-10 minutes each) that may be shown during library board meetings to stimulate discussion about the important role that library trustees play in the governance of their libraries. 

The video series includes: What It Means to Be a Trustee; Board Meetings; Board Ethics; Library Advocacy; Library Policies; Strategic Planning; Working with Friends; Evaluating the Library Director; Board Self Evaluation, and Succession Planning and New Board Orientation.

  1. The registration form link on the United for Libraries website is www.ala.org/united/alaska.
  2. All users will need an ALA website login. This is free, but users will need to create this login. The instructions are in the registration form itself. If anyone has difficulty with the creating a login staff can help them by phone/email.
  3. Access to training is provided through ALA’s new eLearning site - https://elearning.ala.org/my/
