Early Literacy and Children's Services

Early literacy and children's resources for librarians

Introduction

Literacy is a skill that we continue to build throughout our lifetime. One of the easiest ways to build literacy is through storytelling. Small children love to create stories and talk about them. This can be done through scribbling or through cutting and pasting pictures. Both work fine motor skills. As children age, their writing and art styles evolve, but just the act of creation continues to build important literacy skills. By providing programming on self-publishing or having passive zine materials, libraries allow children of all ages to increase their literacy skills!
