NASA@ the Alaska State Library: Home

Introduction

The Alaska State Library has been chosen to be a phase two State Library Agency partner for NASA@ My Library for the 2019 Calendar Year. This grant will enable our library to:

  • Support other libraries in space-themed Science, Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) Activities through circulating STEM kits and coordinating lectures and other programming.
  • Provide NASA and space themed STEM activities directly to our audiences.
  • Increase our knowledge and confidence in promoting earth and space science programming.

A separate but related grant will enable us to hold an in-person, train the trainer workshop in STEM activities back at their home institution. Julie Niederhauser is our point person for the workshop.

This guide features resources and updates for the main NASA@ My Library grant and the separate but related training workshop.

STEM Kit lending to libraries and museums

As part of our work with NASA@ My Library, we have three Science, Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) kits available for lending to libraries wishing to use these kits in programming. They will circulate for 21 days to allow time for the kits to arrive at the library, have the program and return the kit back to us.  We won't charge postage to mail out the kits and will reimburse you for shipping the kits back to us.

Cloudy? Midnight Sun? No Problem!

Parts of Alaska are cloudy all year round. Some parts of Alaska stay too light in summer to observe the night sky. Here are some space themed activities that you and your patrons can participate in no matter the sky conditions.
