Solar Eclipse Activities for Libraries

Our solar eclipse passed and Juneau was cloudy for it! But, here are two videos documenting the 2024 solar eclipse!

The Space Science Institute‘s STAR Net team provided the Alaska State Library and Rasmussen University with engaging solar eclipse programming kits. The kits feature books, interactive activities, and solar viewing instruments that can be used to enhance solar eclipse programming. The kits also include materials aimed at helping library staff feel more comfortable talking to patrons about eclipses. These activities and materials can help facilitate patron enthusiasm before and after the eclipses occur.

The Alaska State Library is able to send the kits to libraries via the United States Post Office. Please note that circulation is dependent on finding a source of funding.

Please email Nadine if you are interested in borrowing a kit.

Please see the list of kit contents below. Photos are included. Each kit weighs 40-50 lbs.
